Last November my niece Pihu came home from school with a paper crown sliding off one ear and a half-melted Eclair glued to her palm. Before her shoes were off, she had a complaint ready: 'Mumma ne status nahi lagaya.' She was six, and she was keeping score. I hadn't posted anything either, so the guilt landed on me too.

This year I got ahead of it. Below are 44 children's day wishes in Hindi and English, sorted by who will read them: little kids, school groups, your own children, nostalgic friends and quick statuses. The story behind 14 November comes after the wishes, followed by font, length and timing notes from our own phones.

Children's Day Wishes in Hindi for Little Ones

Hindi lines feel warmer at home. Dadi can read them out at dinner, and the youngest kids catch every word. These first children's day wishes in Hindi suit under-tens.

A small warning for school images. Devanagari letters hang from a top line called the shirorekha, and stacked rows blur together on a phone. Two rows per image is the safe limit. English is far more forgiving.

Happy Children's Day Wishes for Kids in English

English lines suit notice boards, handmade cards and older kids who read their own messages. I kept them short and a little cheeky.

Children's Day Quotes for Parents to Kids

My cousin Aditi writes truly awful greeting-card poetry, and her son loves it because it sounds like her. So mix Hindi and English the way your family really talks.

Every 14 November, my friend Neha in Pune slips a sticky note into her son's lunch box. He's nine and pretends to hate it. Last month she found three years of those notes folded inside his pencil pouch. She hasn't told him she knows.

Bal Diwas Shayari and Bachpan Lines for Grown-Ups

Plenty of 14 November statuses come from adults who miss recess, Parle-G that crumbled into the chai, and May holidays at nani's house. This bal diwas shayari is for that crowd.

Muted backgrounds suit these: mustard, faded khaki, old-notebook beige. A grainy school picnic photo, if you have one, beats any stock picture.

Short Children's Day Status for WhatsApp and Instagram

People tap through statuses fast, often while the pressure cooker whistles, so this children's day status for WhatsApp set is deliberately tiny.

Caption length by platform

Ritu, my older sister, and I worked out this loose guide last year. Treat it as a family rule of thumb.

Why Bal Diwas Falls on 14 November

The short version most of us learned in school: 14 November is the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, whom children called Chacha Nehru.

India first marked Children's Day on 20 November, the date the UN still uses, and switched to Nehru's birthday after he died in May 1964. The Wikipedia entry on Children's Day in India covers the change. The United Nations page on World Children's Day explains that 20 November marks children's rights documents adopted in 1959 and 1989.

For a school notice, lean on official sources like the Ministry of Women and Child Development, not a wishes blog like this one.

Our school in Lucknow flipped roles that day, with teachers on stage. One year our maths sir sang an old film song so off-key the hall went silent. I've forgotten Class 5 maths. I haven't forgotten his red ears.

A line from Tagore's Stray Birds (1916) fits the day:

Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged of man. (Rabindranath Tagore)

Want Nehru on your image? Most newspaper photos of him belong to agencies, so use a government archive or public-domain picture. A red rose, the flower he wore on his jacket, works too. Skip trademarked cartoon characters.

How to Turn These Quotes Into Images in 30 Seconds

Any image app can do this. What trips people up is how Hindi text behaves on a phone, so run three checks first.

  • Font: Choose one built for Devanagari, like Noto Sans Devanagari, Mukta or Hind. Conjuncts such as क्ष and श्र are assembled by shaping rules (OpenType substitution tables) inside the font. Many decorative fonts lack them, so letters fall apart or show as empty boxes.
  • Weight: Go medium or bold. Thin strokes break up once WhatsApp compresses the picture.
  • Top margin: Matras like ि and ी curl above the top line of each word, so they get clipped first near the edge.

Here's my routine in QuoteStudio:

  1. Open the free quote image maker on your phone or laptop.
  2. Paste a wish from this page.
  3. Zoom into the preview and check the top margin.
  4. Pick a background: bright for kids, muted for nostalgic friends.
  5. Let the text fill about half the frame, with the child's name small at the bottom.
  6. Download and share to your status, Story or school group.

The first design takes some fiddling. After that, it's mostly paste, check, download.

What Actually Works on Instagram and WhatsApp

Last November Ritu and I checked every family image on three phones: her budget Redmi, my Samsung and Papa's ageing handset with the font maxed out. A small family test, not research, but patterns kept repeating.

  • Length: Long wishes got shrunk or cropped on the old handset. Lines that fit in two rows at a readable size survived everywhere.
  • Fonts: We set the same wish in a thin calligraphy font and in Mukta Bold. After WhatsApp compression on the Redmi, the thin version's matras became grey smudges.
  • Contrast: Dark text on cream, or white on deep blue or maroon, never failed. Yellow on white was so faint Papa asked why I'd sent a blank picture.
  • Timing: The class group was busiest before school and around pickup. Early statuses drew replies from teachers and parents; late ones mostly reached cousins.
  • Names: A small 'Aarav' on one design earned three heart emojis from his mum. Without the name, a polite thumbs up.
  • Quantity: Four images in a row and even my mother skipped them. Once a day is plenty.

Let the kids vote, too. Pihu rejected three of my designs (too boring, too blue, and 'where is the unicorn'). The pink unicorn she finally approved got the most replies in our family group.

A Last Word Before 14 November

Kids rarely remember how polished a message looked. They remember that someone thought of them. Pick one of these children's day wishes in Hindi or English, change a word so it sounds like you, add the child's name and send it early.

Prefer a picture? Open the free quote image maker, pick a bright background and send a बाल दिवस की शुभकामनाएं (bal diwas ki shubhkamnayein) image to the little ones you love.

Pihu has already asked about this year's status.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should a teacher write children's day wishes in Hindi for a whole class?

Start with a warm address such as 'प्यारे बच्चो' and praise something the whole class does together, like their energy in assembly or the way they welcomed a new classmate. Leave out marks and comparisons. One sentence on the board or in the class group is plenty, and reading it aloud in the first period makes it feel personal.

What are good children's day wishes in Hindi for nursery kids?

Keep it to one short line using words a three-year-old already knows, like हंसी, खिलौने and गुब्बारे. For example: 'नन्हे दोस्त, आज खूब खेलो और खूब हंसो!' Read it aloud with actions and a big smile, because toddlers respond to your voice more than the words. Large letters and a bright picture help parents share it too.

What can students write to wish their teachers on Children's Day?

The day is about students, but many kids like to thank the teachers who planned the celebration. A simple line works well: 'Thank you for making school feel like a second home.' In Hindi, try 'आपकी वजह से स्कूल आना अच्छा लगता है।' Write it by hand on a small card, since teachers often keep those for years.

How do I start a short Children's Day speech in school?

Open with something the audience can picture instead of a dictionary definition. You could say, 'Good morning everyone. Today the youngest people in this hall are the most important ones.' Then mention Nehru's birthday in one sentence, share a short memory or story, and end with a warm wish. Two or three minutes is enough for an assembly.

What can I write for a baby's first Children's Day?

A baby can't read it yet, so the message is really for the family and for later. Write one line about the past year, such as the first giggle or the day they grabbed Dadi's glasses, and add the date. Print it for the baby album and keep a handwritten copy as well.

Is it okay to send Children's Day wishes to adult friends?

Yes, and most people enjoy it. Adults often share nostalgic lines about school, old games or tiffin swaps on 14 November. Make it personal by mentioning a memory you share with that friend, like the cycle you both crashed or the teacher you used to imitate. These messages usually turn into a long, happy chat.
